March is Celebrate National Reading Month with Read Across America, a project of the National Education Association. They have put together book lists around themes to celebrate every month and encourage young readers to explore new ideas and themes. Find lists celebrating National Reading Month, Women’s History Month, and Pi Day (March 14th).
For March the theme is Cultivate Compassion. Remember, reading diverse books helps students walk in someone’s shoes and think about how other people may feel. Talk about what they read and how to put their compassion into action.
Recommended titles include:
- Elementary- Tiara’s Hat Parade by Kelly Starling Lyons
- Middle Grade- Each Tiny Spark by Pablo Cartaya
- Young Adult- They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, Justin Eisinger, and Steven Scott
