BPL Friends Announce New Art Exhibit Project

-Local artists are invited to submit artwork suitable for display in the gallery area of the computer lab section of the library. Applications are now available at the library or online at bridgtonlibrary.org/artexhibit.

Friends of the Bridgton Public Library established this new Art Exhibit Project to collaborate with artistic patrons in order to provide opportunity for them to display their work to the public, and to beautify the library’s computer lab. “We discovered lots of empty wall space in the lovely light filled room now housing the computer lab upstairs, after moving the children’s room back downstairs”, said Karen Dean, Friends member and Art Exhibit Project Coordinator.

Artwork will be hung from a gallery rail and wire and be rotated on a quarterly basis and as space permits. Interested artists should submit an exhibit application to the Friends of the Bridgton Public Library Art Exhibit Project Coordinator. Once submitted, art pieces will be reviewed by the Art Exhibit Project Committee who will make recommendations to the Library Director who will make the final decision on what to display. Criteria used to evaluate appropriateness of artwork are: local interest, vitality and originality, historical or artistic significance, number of pieces, and availability of space.

Once approved for exhibit, artists shall deliver, hang and remove works on the date specified with the Art Exhibit Project Coordinator. Artists may prepare a biography and/or exhibitor’s statement to fit into a clear acrylic 8.5” x 11” stand, to be provided by the library. Sale of artwork exhibited will be permitted subject to restrictions: the exhibitor is solely responsible for all aspects of any sale transaction; library staff will not negotiate sales, collect payment, or deliver item to purchaser. Artists may provide a business card to be affixed to each piece displayed, to include title, price of artwork and artist’s name and contact information.

“We hope this new Art Exhibit Project will be appreciated by library patrons and artists alike and we encourage the public to stop by and let us know what you think”, said Amy Stone, Library Director.
