Celebrating Libraries

Celebrating Libraries

There are many ways to celebrate all of the good things libraries can do. The first is, of course, to have a library card. If you know someone who does not have a library card, please encourage them to come in and get one. Bridgton Public Library offers free library cards to all, you just need a photo ID. help us celebrate National Library Card Signup Month through the month of September.

We are here to serve the community as a safe place for information, culture, and lifelong learning. This month we are featuring titles that are challenging for a variety of reasons. We are proud to reflect a diverse and thoughtful community of readers. Please check out our differently-themed displays throughout the library, from our Bendable Maine Books and Course Display to our Challenging Display to our Hispanic National Heritage Display, there is something here for everyone.

Celebrate National Reading Month

Celebrate National Reading Month

March is Celebrate National Reading Month with Read Across America, a project of the National Education Association. They have put together book lists around themes to celebrate every month and encourage young readers to explore new ideas and themes. Find lists celebrating National Reading Month, Women’s History Month, and Pi Day (March 14th)

For March the theme is Cultivate Compassion. Remember, reading diverse books helps students walk in someone’s shoes and think about how other people may feel. Talk about what they read and how to put their compassion into action.

Recommended titles include:

  • Elementary- Tiara’s Hat Parade by Kelly Starling Lyons
  • Middle Grade- Each Tiny Spark by Pablo Cartaya
  • Young Adult- They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, Justin Eisinger, and Steven Scott
