March Reading Activities

Reading Activities for Lingering Winter Days

As we teeter between winter and mud season here in Maine, we’re holding on to the promise of spring—settling into these remaining restful days as a time for growth, creativity, and imagination. Snowy, Rainy, Ice-y afternoons or long evenings offer the perfect chance to slow down and enjoy stories together.

At Bridgton Public Library, we invite you to embrace the last of this hibernation season with a few simple winter reading activities. Try hosting a family story read-aloud night, where everyone takes turns reading a favorite book and bringing the characters to life. Build a cozy blanket fort for flashlight reading, turning an ordinary story into a small adventure. You might also write your own story and act it out with friends or family—winter is a great time to let imaginations run wild.

Even small moments can become special this season: creating a cozy reading nook, sharing a chapter together before bed, or picking out a new stack of books during a library visit. These winter days are slowly, slowly coming to an end, embrace this time as a perfect opportunity to discover new stories and enjoy them together.

Stop by the library for a seasonal read, and let us know which activities become your favorites. We love hearing how our community stays creative and cozy with books all season long.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
