Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders who, under unimaginable circumstances, faced the dangers of that day, giving their lives to save the lives of many. We honor all those who sacrificed—friends, families, first responders & service members, and everyday American citizens who showed great strength in a time of great trouble. Today we honor you.
We also take this day to recognize the dedication of Maine’s own first responders—our firefighters, EMTs, police officers, rescue teams and emergency call centers—who protect and serve our community every day. We thank you for your dedication and service.
We invite you to the library this week to join in this time of reflection—Ask our staff for book recommendations on 9/11 history, heroism, and public service. Let us never forget the bravery shown then, and the bravery shown now.
