Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Wishing You a Happy and Safe Halloween from the Bridgton Public Library

As the leaves crunch underfoot and jack-o’-lanterns glow across town, we at the Bridgton Public Library want to wish all our patrons — young and old — a happy, fun, and safe Halloween!

It’s one of our favorite times of the year to celebrate stories, imagination, and community. Whether you’re dressing up for our Children’s Halloween Costume Party, joining the Historic Cemetery Tour in South Bridgton, or simply heading out for an evening of trick-or-treating, we hope your day is filled with laughter, creativity, and maybe just a little bit of spooky fun.

Here are a few friendly reminders for a safe and enjoyable Halloween night:

  • Stay visible: Carry a flashlight or glow stick and add reflective tape to costumes.

  • Travel safely: Stick to familiar neighborhoods and cross streets carefully.

  • Check treats: Make sure candy and goodies are safe to enjoy.

  • Respect your neighbors: Be mindful of decorations, pets, and porch lights.

The library is proud to be part of a community that celebrates together — through stories, shared traditions, and local events that connect us across generations.

From all of us at the Bridgton Public Library, thank you for being part of our story. Have a wonderful, safe, and memorable Halloween! 🎃

Chills & Thrills – October Staff Picks

Looking for something perfectly spooky to curl up with for Halloween? Our Of Interest shelf is full of Chills & Thrills—handpicked by Bridgton Public Library staff for readers who love a good scare, a haunting mystery, or a touch of the supernatural.

Here are a few highlights from this month’s selection:

Dracula by Bram Stoker – The classic Gothic tale that started it all. Sink your teeth into the chilling story of Count Dracula, where fog-drenched castles, mysterious letters, and creeping shadows still send shivers more than a century later.

Pearl by Tabitha King – Set right here in Maine, this dark and atmospheric story follows a woman whose quiet life unravels after a tragedy, revealing the eerie undercurrents of small-town secrets.

Alice Isn’t Dead by Joseph Fink – From one of the creators of Welcome to Night Vale comes a surreal road-trip thriller about a truck driver searching for her missing wife—and uncovering a conspiracy that stretches across America’s strangest highways.

Ghostwalk by Rebecca Stott – A beautifully written literary thriller that weaves together history, science, and ghostly intrigue surrounding the life of Isaac Newton.

Whether you like your scares classic, psychological, or simply strange, there’s something here to keep you turning pages long past sunset.
