National Library Week – April 19th-26th

As April begins, we’re looking ahead with excitement to one of our favorite celebrations of the year—National Library Week (April 19–26). It’s a time to recognize the vital role libraries play in our lives and to celebrate the joy of reading, learning, and community connection.

Here at Bridgton Public Library, we’re especially thrilled to celebrate alongside our partner libraries in the Chickadee Library Consortium: Raymond, Casco, Naples, and Harrison. Together, we are more than individual libraries—we are one shared resource, working collaboratively to serve and strengthen our surrounding communities. Whether you’re browsing the shelves in Bridgton, attending a program in Naples, or discovering something new through one of our partner libraries, your library experience extends far beyond a single building.

National Library Week is the perfect opportunity to explore all that your library card can do. From borrowing books, movies, and more, to accessing digital resources, attending programs, and connecting with others, our libraries are here to support curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning in every form.

Throughout the month, we’ll be inviting you to celebrate with us in meaningful (and fun!) ways. Share your favorite library memories with us in our special scrapbook stations, discover a new author, visit us or a neighboring library, or simply spend a little extra time enjoying the spaces and services that bring our communities together.

At the heart of it all, this celebration is about you—our patrons. Your stories, your questions, your creativity, and your presence are what make our libraries vibrant and welcoming places. We’re so grateful to be part of your lives, and we can’t wait to celebrate together.

Here’s to libraries, community, and the many ways we learn and grow—together.

Women’s History Month Book Highlight: Transcendent Kingdom

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Bridgton Public Library is proud to highlight Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi—a beautifully written and deeply affecting novel that explores the intersections of science, faith, family, and identity.

Gyasi’s writing is both intimate and expansive, moving seamlessly between past and present as Gifty reflects on her childhood, her family, and the path that has led her to learn about suffering through science. The novel asks powerful questions: How do we make sense of pain? Where do we turn when science cannot fully explain the human heart? And how do we carry the stories of those we love?

Transcendent Kingdom is a quiet yet powerful meditation on resilience—the kind that is built slowly, through reflection, compassion, and the search for meaning. It is also a testament to the importance of women’s voices in literature, offering a perspective that is at once deeply personal and universally resonant.

This Women’s History Month, we invite you to discover (or rediscover) this remarkable novel. Stop by the Bridgton Public Library to check out a copy and experience a story that is as thoughtful as it is unforgettable.

We hope you find yourself lost in the captivating pages soon.

We’ll be seeing you,
