Summer Reading Challenge

Summer Reading Challenge

We have been having a great time here with our Summer Reading Challenge! Kids, teens, and adults have all been getting their raffle tickets for the books they’ve read so far, and have been grabbing our activity bags to take home for some hands-on fun.

Just a reminder that our challenge ends Saturday, August 21st. Please turn in your reading logs so we can keep track of how many books have been read for our Community Read as well. Our goal is 1,000 books as a community this year. We will have our raffle drawing on Tuesday, August 24th and will give the lucky winners calls that day. Our prizes include:  gift certificates to Hayes True Value, Paris Farmers Union, Bavarian Chocolate Haus, and Reny’s; and for kids we have I-Spy Eagle Eye, What Came First (game), STEM Robotic Kit, Yahtzee, and Classic Lego set.

Thank you to the Friends of Bridgton Library for their generous financial support of our Summer Reading Challenge. We are so lucky to have you!

Anne Gass will be here at the Bridgton Public Library. We welcome her to read from her newest novel and answer any questions you may have on her writings.

We Demand: The Suffrage Road Trip is the story of Swedish immigrants Ingeborg Kindstedt and Maria Kindberg who visit San Francisco in the summer of 1915. They buy a car and explore the country on their way back to their home in Rhode Island. On impulse, they offer to bring with them suffragists heading to Washington, DC, to demand voting rights for women from Congress and the president. Soon they are plunged into a difficult and dangerous journey that pushes them to the very limits of their endurance.

Along the way, they encounter unexpected allies, as well as those opposed to women’s growing independence. Bad roads and harsh weather hinder their progress. Will they overcome these obstacles and arrive in Washington at the appointed day and time?
